SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend softball team split with Trinity Christian Friday, April 9, after a walk-off winner before falling in another offensive onslaught in the night cap. The Titans upped their record to 9-13 overall and 2-4 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play after their Type One Diabetes Awareness Day.

Game One: IUSB 10, Trinity Christian 9Shelby BakerOlivia Zarantonello and Nicole Grazioli tallied three hits in game one. Zarantonello went 3-for-5 with a game-high three RBIs. Baker finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a double and Grazioli added two RBIs after going 3-for-4.

Senior Becca Stevens picked up the win on the mound, yielding nine runs over eight innings and striking out five.

After yielding eight runs though three, the Titans trailed 8-2. IU South Bend cut the deficit to three with a pair of runs in the fourth, making the game 7-4.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Trolls added two in the top of the sixth. The Titans rallied for five runs in the bottom half to even the ball game. Senior Savanna Schmitz scooted into home after reaching on a short stop error. Other IUSB runs came from Kat BesslerHaylie Williamson, Baker and Emily Anglin.

With the game tied, Brittany VanderBrink got IUSB’s eighth inning started with a double down the left field line. After Baker sacrificed a bunt down, Vanderbrink promptly made it to third. Zarantonello roped a double to left to give Indiana University South Bend a 10-9 walk-off win.
