Schroeder Lauded as MSFA Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week
UPLAND, Ind. – Justin Schroeder became the third Trojan to earn a weekly honor from the Mid-States Football Association already this season, being named the MSFA Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Schroeder had a major role in Taylor’s 28-10 win at RV Saint Francis on Saturday, providing 1.5 sacks, including a strip-sack that led to a TU touchdown. The lineman finished the day with four tackles, as the Trojans limited USF to just 237 total yards of offense.
The senior defensive tackle currently ranks No. 8 in the MSFA Mideast League in sacks and leads the Purple and Gray in sacks and tackles for a loss through TU’s first three games.
The MSFA weekly honor is the first for Schroeder in his career and he joined Jedidiah Galvin and Reid Messer in earning a weekly league honor already this season.
Schroeder was also joined by Margo Hernandez (volleyball), Connor Shaw (men’s soccer) and Eleanor Schuitema (women’s golf), as TU Athletics hauled in four Player-of-the-Week awards on Monday from the MSFA and Crossroads League. TU now has 13 such honors already in the fall season.
Schroeder and the RV Trojans (2-1) will return to action on Saturday, September 19 at noon, when they play at Union (0-2).
