Trojans Drop Home Bout with No. 24 Marian
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor faced a nationally-ranked opponent for the first time this season, falling by a 67-52 score to No. 24 Marian on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans struggled against the NAIA’s fifth-rated scoring defense, shooting 36.2 percent from the field and three-of-15 from beyond the arc against the Knights (7-2, 2-2 CL).
The shooting woes were magnified in the opening half, with TU shooting just six-of-21 from the floor and zero-of-six from deep. Taylor managed to stay within striking distance early by going 10-of-13 from the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes and pulled to within 24-20 late in the half.
MU did not let Taylor pull any closer, finishing the half on a 9-2 run and maintaining a comfortable double-digit lead throughout the entire second half.
Taylor performed well defensively yet again, holding Marian to a 42.0-percent clip from the field but the guests sank eight triples and went 17-of-21 from the free throw line to protect the lead.
Jason Hubbard led TU in scoring with 20 points, while Aaron Hahn went for seven points and five rebounds and Jeff Clayton added six points, six boards, three blocks and two assists.
Taylor (4-7, 2-2 CL) will return to action on Tuesday against Indiana Tech (9-4) for a 7:00 pm tip inside Odle Arena.
