Scally Earns MSFA Defensive Player-of-the-Week Nod
UPLAND, Ind. – Following his standout performance in Taylor’s 52-6 win over Judson on September 3, Dawson Scally was named the MSFA’s Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Scally highlighted TU’s game-changing third quarter in which the Trojans outscored their guests by a 24-0 count to break open a contest that was 14-6 at the half. The freshman snared a Judson pass out of the air and raced it 43 yards for a touchdown that moved Taylor’s lead out to 31-6 midway through the third quarter.
In addition to the 43-yard pick-six, Scally led Taylor in tackles with seven and recorded six of those stops via a solo hit. The play of Scally helped limit the Judson passing attack to 148 yards.
The MSFA weekly honor is the first for Scally in his young career and gives the Taylor football program four weekly nods from the MSFA through two games this season. Taylor now boasts seven total athlete-of-the-week awards during the 2022 fall season.
Scally and the Trojans (2-0, 1-0 MSFA) will return to action on Saturday, September 10, with a 6:00 pm game at NCAA Division I FCS Butler.
