[4] Purdue 82, Michigan 76 (Postgame Notes)
• Purdue improved to 20-3 overall and 9-3 in the Big Ten with an 82-76 win over Michigan in front of 14,804 fans at Mackey Arena – the 37th straight sellout at Mackey.
• The Boilermakers have won five games in a row and snapped a five-game losing streak to Michigan, earning their first win over the Wolverines since Jan. 25, 2018.
• The win, coupled with Michigan State’s loss to Rutgers, moves Purdue into second place in the Big Ten with league-leader Illinois (10-2) visiting Mackey on Tuesday night (9 PM, ESPN).
• Purdue became the first program in league history to win 1,000 conference games. Purdue is now 1,000 – 686 in Big Ten Conference games.
• Today’s win was Matt Painter’s 400th career victory in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach (25 at Southern Illinois, 375 at Purdue).
• Purdue has scored 80-plus points in five straight Big Ten games for the first time since doing it in seven straight games from Jan. 18 to Feb. 10, 1998.
• The win gave Purdue 20 victories for the 12th time in 17 seasons under Matt Painter. Purdue is 20-3 (or better) for the sixth time since the 1979-80 season and third time under Painter (2021-22, 2017-18, 2009-10).
• The win over Michigan gave the senior class (Sasha Stefanovic, Eric Hunter Jr., Trevion Williams) at least one win over every Big Ten school.
• Purdue has not trailed in three of its last five games (Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota). In its other two victories, it trailed Northwestern for 1:23 and Ohio State for 4:37.
• Over its last 108 games at Mackey Arena, Purdue is 97-11.
• Purdue has now shot over 50 percent in 14 of its 23 games this season, the second-most games in the country.
• Purdue is now 58-2 since the start of the 2017-18 season when scoring at least 80 points, having won 36 straight games.
• Purdue’s five made 3-pointers were a season low.
• Purdue is now 11-3 against the KenPom top-100 this season.
• Purdue won both the rebound and turnover battles, making the Boilermakers 137-15 when winning both the rebound and turnover battles.
• Since the start of the 2015-16 season, Purdue is now 100 games over .500 (163-63).
• Purdue’s big three of Jaden Ivey, Zach Edey and Trevion Williams combined for 55 points, 23 rebounds and 10 assists. It marks the second-most combined points the trio has scored this season (Indiana State – 60).
• Jaden Ivey scored 23 points with a career-high tying seven assists, six rebounds, one steal and one block. It marked his third straight 20-point game.
• Trevion Williams scored 19 points with eight rebounds. Since the start of his sophomore season, Williams is averaging 22.4 points and 10.1 rebounds against the Big Ten’s Michigan schools.
• Zach Edey tallied 13 points with nine rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
