Offensive Outpour Helps Trojans Advance in CL Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – Taylor (24-26) kept its season alive on Thursday morning, blasting its way past Huntington (16-34) to advance in the Crossroads League Tournament.

The offense led the way to an 11-2 victory, tallying nine hits in the contest, including three doubles and a home run. Leading the offense was Kristin Mihalic and Jersey Tannehill, both collecting four runs batted in throughout the game.

The Trojans jumped on the Foresters from the get-go, plating five runs in the first inning. Taylor led off the inning with three-straight batters reaching, which forced an early pitching change for Huntington. Emma West walked and scored on a double to left belted by Maddi Evans, who advanced to third on a single to center by Ashton Whitman. After an out was recorded, Evans scored on a single by Aleyah Rastetter, before Tannehill ripped a two-out, bases-loaded double to left-center field, that cleared them and put TU up 5-0.

After Huntington cut the lead to 5-2, Taylor responded in the third. Rastetter laced a double to center, before Kristin Mihalic blasted a home run to right center to restore the five-run advantage for Taylor.

TU added four more runs in the fourth to put the game to bed. With two outs and the bases loaded, a Huntington error allowed two Trojans to cross the plate, before Tannehill dropped in an RBI single.

Evans was stout in the circle again, pitching four innings and allowing two runs in her 14th victory of the season. Evans retired the Foresters in order in three frames, while striking out three batters in her outing.

Mackenzie Noah hurled a scoreless fifth inning to ensure a Taylor victory, 11-2, ending the game early by the way of the run-rule.

Taylor is now scheduled to play Thursday at 4:00 pm against the winner of RV Mount Vernon Nazarene (37-13) and Spring Arbor (18-30).
