No. 5 Marian’s win over No. 10 Concordia puts the Knights in a tie atop the Mideast League race to highlight the action in the MSFA during Week 8.

#5 Marian 14, #10 Concordia 7

No. 5 Marian would hold No. 10 Concordia off the scoreboard for three and a half quarters, using two early touchdown drives to win a defensive battle, 14-7 over the Cardinals.
The Knights (6-0, 3-0 Mideast) took a first-quarter lead on William Gibson’s seven-yard TD as Marian drove 60 yards highlighted by a 4th-and-19 conversion after back-to-back sacks by Concordia’s David Cagle.
The Cardinals (5-1, 2-1 Mideast) would drive across midfield on their next possession, but Marian’s Adrian Cuevas ended the threat; the Knights would then take a 14-0 lead four plays later on a 31-yard Keagan La Belle TD run.
Marian’s defense would get a fourth-down stop and recover a fumble, keeping the Cardinals scoreless through the first half. After the break Concordia would move the ball into the red zone, but another fourth-down conversion would come up short. The Cardinals would break through midway through the third, driving 78 yards and scoring on a four-yard TD pass from Gavin Brooks to Payton Pizzala.
After Cagle recovered a fumble on the Knight’s next drive, Concordia’s potential game-tying drive would end on Jayshawn Underwoods’ interception, as Marian then ran out the final two and a half minutes to secure the win.
La Belle finished with 126 yards on 15 carries to lead the Marian attack. Seeger DeGayner made five catches for 55 yards for the Cardinals.
Defensively, Nate Frey posted a game-high 13 tackles in the win, with one tackle for loss, and Tyler Bukur picked up ten stops with a sack. Casey Rauch made nine tackles to lead the Concordia defense, including two sacks and four tackles for loss.

#4 Indiana Wesleyan 26, Madonna 0

Dederrian Williams rushed for over 200 yards for the second week in a row, as No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan took a 26-0 win over Madonna to remain perfect on the season.
Williams broke free for a 70-yard TD to open the scoring in the first quarter, then found the end zone again in the second as the Wildcats (7-0, 4-0 Mideast) took a 19-0 lead going into the half. Williams then scored his third TD of the game late in the third quarter to close out the scoring.
The running back finished with 227 yards and three scores on 23 carries, while receiver Levi Tidwell made ten catches for 175 yards. Madonna (0-7, 0-3 Mideast) was led by Glen Jackson’s 94 rushing yards on 18 attempts.
Daniel Schager led the Wildcats defense with eight tackles and a half-tackle for loss, while Isaac Abeo had two and a half sacks in the win. Will Fennema, Dante Cardinali, and Adam Sabbagh made eight tackles apiece for the Crusaders.

Saginaw Valley St. (Mich.) 32, #13 Saint Xavier 10

The No. 13 Saint Xavier offense struggled on Saturday, as NCAA Division II foe Saginaw Valley St. (Mich.) held the host Cougars to 117 yards of total offense in a 32-10 win for the Cardinals.
After a blocked punt resulted in a safety to open the game, Peyton Benes put the Cougars (4-3) in front, 3-2. The Cardinals (3-4) would take control the rest of the way, scoring 30 unanswered before Stuart Ross’ 27-yard TD pass to Kyle Quinn late in the fourth quarter.
Ross finished with 107 yards on 10 of 15 passing, with Quinn bringing in four catches for a game-high 68 yards. Terry Elias finished with 14 tackles and a tackle for loss to lead the Cougar defense.

Siena Heights 24, Taylor 21

A 31-yard field goal from David Medvedik as time expired gave Siena Heights their first Mideast League win of the season, as the Saints defeated Taylor, 24-21.
The Trojans (1-6, 0-3 Mideast) struck first with an 11-yard pass from Damon Hockett to Drew Bagley, but the Saints (3-3, 1-2 Mideast) found the end zone twice in the first quarter for a 14-7 edge. Hockett’s 14-yard TD run that capped a 13-play, 81-yard drive would tie the game just before the half, 14-14.
In the fourth quarter, Ethan LoPresto would break free for a 45-yard TD run, but Taylor’s Stephen Ellis responded on the Trojans’ next possession, with a game-tying 25-yard run.
Both sides would trade punts throughout the rest of the fourth quarter, but with 21 seconds remaining LoPresto would rush 51 yards to give the Saints the ball inside the red zone to set up the game-winning field goal.
LoPresto finished the day with 184 yards and two TDs on 21 carries. Elijah Taylor threw for 236 yards and a TD, finding Credell Prather for four receptions and a game-high 102 yards. For the Trojans, Ellis led the way with 91 yards and a TD on five carries.
On the other side of the ball, Siena Heights’ Clarke Hamilton made a game-high 14 tackles, while Taylor’s David Worlds made ten tackles and four pass breakups.

St. Francis (Ill.) 56, Judson 26

Aydan Edwards threw three touchdowns, and Brandon Mackey rushed for 127 yards, but Judson was unable to keep pace with St. Francis as the Saints pick up a home win, 56-26 over the Eagles.
The Saints (5-2, 1-2 Midwest) opened the game with a three-and-out on defense, followed by a blocked punt by Kemon Reese, recovered in the end zone for the early score. Another defensive stop on the Eagles’ fourth-down attempt gave St. Francis a short field, as Joey Tumilty scored on the next play from scrimmage on a 16-yard TD run.
Judson (0-6, 0-3 Midwest) would get on the board with a TD pass from Mackey to Jeff Delaney, but the Saints would extend their lead with two straight drives capped by TD runs from Carl Bew. Both sides would trade trips to the end zone to make it a 35-14 Saints’ lead at the half. St. Francis would add two more touchdowns coming out of the break to take a 49-14 lead, and would control the game the rest of the way.
Bew finished the day with 170 rushing yards and two TDs on 24 carries, as well as 155 yards and a TD on 10-of-12 passing to lead the Saints’ offense. Judson’s Grant Alexander caught a game-high nine passes for 157 yards and two TDs.
Matthew Perry finished with eight tackles for St. Francis, while Jay Callentine made 11 stops for the Eagles.

Saint Francis (Ind.) 56, Lawrence Tech 7

Grant Gremel would throw for four TDs as Saint Francis earned a dominant home win over Lawrence Tech, 56-7.
The Cougars (4-2, 3-0 Mideast) opened with a pair of TD passes to O’Vauntay Vickers in the first quarter, as Gremel connected with the wideout from 27- and 31-yards out for the 14-0 lead. Gremel threw a 37-yard TD pass to Crosley MacEachen early in the second quarter, and Cam Peterson rushed for the first of the Cougars’ four TD runs to give the home team a 28-0 lead at the half.
Four more touchdown drives in the second half would double the Saint Francis lead, before Lawrence Tech (1-6, 0-4 Mideast) ended the shutout with a 99-yard TD pass from Alex Osman to Derrick Agurs.
Vickers finished with 100 yards and two TDs on three receptions, to lead the Cougar receivers. Drew Wheat tallied 78 yards rushing with one TD on two carries.
Osman led the Blue Devil attack, completing 20 of 35 passes for 225 yards on the day. Andrew Perkins finished with a game-high seven tackles for Lawrence Tech, including two and half tackles for loss and an interception. Nate Talhelm led the Cougars with seven tackles, one sack, and two and a half tackles for loss.

#12 Bethel (Tenn.) 44, Roosevelt 7

Carson Budke’s TD pass to Keonta Nixon in the third quarter would be the only points of the day for Roosevelt, as the Lakers fell in a non-conference matchup at No. 12 Bethel (Tenn.), 44-7.
The Lakers (4-3) were held to under 100 yards of total offense on the day, but capitalized on a short field midway through the third, taking over on the Bethel 35 yard line and three plays later, finding the end zone.
Defensively, Jaylen Olokun led the Lakers with 18 tackles, along with two tackles for loss.
