No.15 Grace Women’s Soccer collect road win
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Grace’s women’s soccer team picked up a 2-0 road win at Indiana Tech on Wednesday.
Lea Moessinger was a central figure, playing a role in both of the Lady Lancers’ goals during the victory.
Grace dominated the match from start to finish despite playing short-handed. The NAIA No. 15-ranked Lady Lancers held a 28-7 advantage in shots, consistently pinning the Warriors into their defensive end of the pitch.
The Lady Lancers somehow remained scoreless in the first half even with a monumental shot advantage. Grace pelted Indiana Tech’s goal with 17 shots across the first 45 minutes.
One of the most threatening moments came with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half. Madison Tuma tried a long shot that beat the goalkeeper but bounced off the crossbar. Moessinger tried her best to redirect the rebound, but her effort hit the goalpost.
The Warriors managed to hold a 0-0 tie into halftime despite playing heavily on the defensive end.
Shortly into the second half, Grace took the lead for good.
In the 56th minute, Lea Fricke found Tuma in space inside the Warriors’ penalty box. Tuma’s shot forced a diving save, and the ensuing rebound was collected by Moessinger and passed into the back of the net.
Less than a minute later, Grace’s lead grew to two. Danae Moriarty and Moessinger combined for a quick attack along the left sideline.
Moessinger threaded three defenders with a pinpoint pass to Moriarty, and Moriarty slid her shot past the goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead.
Grace had plenty of chances to build its lead, but Moriarty’s marker proved to be the final goal of the match.
Tuma (8 shots) outshot the Warriors (7 shots) by herself. Moriarty and Moessinger each shot four times, and Victoria Lucido had three shots with two on target.
Bethany Blackwood registered the save in goal for Grace, making four saves in a shutout performance.
The Lady Lancers remain on the road Saturday for a Top-25 clash. No. 15 Grace will play at No. 24 Northwestern Ohio at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
