#13 Saint Xavier 28, #24 St. Francis (Ill.) 21 (OT)

Stuart Ross’ third TD pass of the day would be the difference, as No. 13 Saint Xavier picked up an overtime victory on the road, 28-21 over No. 24 St. Francis (Ill.).
The host Saints (4-1, 1-1 Midwest) would lead throughout most of the day, opening with the first of two Sam Tumilty TD runs midway through the first quarter. Ross would connect with Kyle Quinn for a 27-yard TD pass to even the score, before Tumilty struck again inside of two minutes left until halftime.
The Cougars (3-2, 1-0 Midwest) would pull even again in the final seconds of the first half, with another TD pass to Justin Pringle. St. Francis would take their third lead of the game late in the third quarter, with a 73-yard pass from Sam to Joey Tumilty. Saint Xavier tied the game for the third time on their next drive, resulting in a one-yard TD run from Amari Venerable.
On the first play from ovetime, Ross would find Brandt Hixson in the end zone for the Cougars’ first lead of the game. On the Saints’ first play in response, Antonio Orozco picked off the pass in the end zone, sealing the win for Saint Xavier.
Ross finished with 157 yards and three TDs in the win, with Venerable leading the SXU rushers with 82 yards and a TD on 19 carries. Sam Tumilty collected 173 yards through the air, and another 101 yards and two TDs on the ground to lead the Saints’ attack.
Terry Elias finished with 10 tackles including a sack and two tackles for loss for the Cougars, while Kemon Reese made 13 stops with a tackle for loss for the Saints.

#4 Indiana Wesleyan 48, Siena Heights 12

A strong start from the home team would lead to a big lead at the half for No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan, as the Wildcats took a 48-12 win over Siena Heights.
The Wildcats (5-0, 2-0 Mideast) generated 545 yards of total offense, while the defense forced five turnovers in the win. Three first-half TD passes from Xander Stokes, along with two Josh Clifton field goals would give Indiana Wesleyan a 34-6 lead at the break.
Siena Heights (2-2, 0-1 Mideast) closed the gap with a TD drive early in the third quarter, but the Wildcats would put the game away with TD runs from Isaiah Gibbs and Chase Bradman.
Stokes finished with 314 yards and three TDs in the win, with Levi Tidwell collecting 237 yards and two TDs on 13 receptions. Eric Williams II led the Saints with 89 yards and a TD on three catches.
On the other side of the ball, Clayton Mosher led Indiana Wesleyan with eight tackles, including a sack and an interception. Amir Stewart finished with 11 tackles to lead the Siena Heights defense.

#5 Marian 44, Lawrence Tech 17

A 30-point second quarter proved too much to overcome for Lawrence Tech – despite a pair of touchdowns in the second period themselves – as No. 5 Marian took a 44-17 home win over the Blue Devils in the Knights’ Mideast League opener.
Lawrence Tech opened the scoring with a 19-yard TD pass from Alex Osman to Ben Brittain, but Marian would run off 30 unanswered points over the next 14 minutes of play. Nate Frey and Adrian Cuevas would each grab interceptions for the Knights defense, helping to give Marian a short field in a busy second quarter.
Two more TD passes in the second half would help Marian to pull away further, leading by as much as 30 before Vincent Robinson’s 28-yard field goal for the Blue Devils early in the fourth quarter.
Zach Bundalo collected a game-high 281 yards and two TDs, completing 15 of 21 passes to lead the Marian attack. Jalen Jennings made five catches for 114 yards and a TD.
Osman threw for 271 yards and two TDs for Lawrence Tech, with Jaden Rembert making four catches for a team-high 61 yards and a TD. Frey and Alex Griffith each made eight tackles for Marian, while Darian Murray finished with seven tackles for Lawrence Tech.

Concordia 24, Wayne St. (Mich.) 23

Trailing by two scores with less than five minutes to play, Concordia rallied to take a 24-23 road win over NCAA Division II foe Wayne State (Mich.).
A touchdown in the final minute of the first half would put Wayne State ahead 20-14, and after a scoreless third quarter, the home team would convert a 39-yard field goal to put the Cardinals (4-0) down 23-14.
With just 3:01 left on the clock, Dejai Robinson hit a field goal from 34 yards out to close the gap to 23-17. After a three-and-out from the Concordia defense, Gavin Brooks would find Seeger DeGayner for a 42-yard touchdown to take the lead with 24 seconds left. Andrew Weimer would clinch the win with an interception on the final play from scrimmage.
Brooks finished the day with 271 passing yards and a pair of TDs. DeGayner led all receivers with six catches and 99 yards in the win. On the other side of the ball, Colby Kohmescher made 11 tackles, while David Cagle finished with seven tackles and a sack for the Cardinals.

Roosevelt 30, St. Ambrose 17

All square through three quarters, a pair of TD runs for the home team would be the difference as Roosevelt picks up the win in the Midwest League opener, 30-17 over visiting St. Ambrose.
The Bees (0-6, 0-1 Midwest) struck first, with a ten-yard TD run from Tom Casey midway through the first quarter. The first of three TDs from Tyler Tenner and a 28-yard Andrew Bucaro field goal would put the Lakers (3-2, 1-0 Midwest) in front, 10-7 near the start of the second quarter.
Before the end of the first half, Casey would connect with Yemi Ward for a TD pass, capping a 91-yard drive that put the Bees in front at the break, 14-10. On the first possession of the third quarter, Charlie Brooks would intercept Casey’s pass, setting Roosevelt up inside the ten yard line leading to another Tenner TD.
Joe Namio would convert a 41-yard field goal to tie the game at 17-17, but the Roosevelt defense would keep St. Ambrose from crossing midfield throughout the fourth quarter. Roosevelt would put together two scoring drives in the final period to pull away for the win.
Tenner finished the day with 188 rushing yards and three TDs on 32 carries to lead the Roosevelt offense. Jeffrey Elms rushed 14 times for 82 yards for the Bees. Defensively, D’Mauryon Hunter and Jake Strater each made nine tackles for St. Ambrose. Jaylen Olokun finished with nine tackles and a tackle for loss to lead the Lakers.

Saint Francis (Ind.) 44, Madonna 9

Opening with a scoreless first quarter, Madonna would take an early lead with the first points of the day, but 31 unanswered points for Saint Francis (Ind.) led to a 44-9 win for the visitors in their Mideast League opener.
Darren Francis would convert a 42-yard field goal to give the Crusaders (0-5, 0-1 Mideast) the 3-0 lead on the first play of the second quarter. After both teams traded punts, Brett Wethington’s three-yard TD run gave the Cougars (2-2, 1-0 Mideast) their the lead, 7-3. Scott Hudson’s pick-six and and Aidan Hosler field goal put the visitors up 17-3 at the break.
Three third-quarter touchdown drives for Saint Francis would put the game out of reach, despite a 35-yard TD pass from Madonna’s Max Morris to Emerson Combs.
Bailey Parker collected 260 yards on 13-of-27 passing for the Cougars, with Adjaye Dandridge posting a game-high 131 yards and a TD on two receptions. Combs would lead the Madonna offense, with 78 yards and a TD on three catches.
Nate Talhelm posted nine tackles with two sacks to anchor the Saint Francis defense, while Dante Cardinali made seven tackles for the Crusaders.

Olivet Nazarene 58, Judson 14

Judson would open the game with a touchdown drive, but 48 unanswered points from Olivet Nazarene would put the Tigers in control as the road team took a 58-14 win in their Midwest League opener.
Olivet Nazarene (3-2, 1-0 Midwest) generated over 550 yards of total offense in the win, and other than a pair of fourth-down stops from the Judson defense, would score touchdowns on five of their first seven possessions to build a 35-7 lead at the half. Two more touchdowns in the third quarter would expand the lead as the Tigers comfortably held on for the win.
Brandon Odam completed 20 of 27 passes in the win, collecting 290 yards and four TD passes. Arthur Walker rushed eight times for 99 yards and had one of the Tigers’ three rushing TDs. Blake Lamb caught five passes for a game-high 111 yards and three TDs.
For Judson (0-4, 0-1 Midwest), Brandon Mackey led the attack, collecting 78 yards and a TD on 19 carries. Anthony Cathcart made six receptions for 67 yards and a TD.
Jay Callentine led the Eagle defense, making seven tackles and forcing a fumble. John Harman finished with six tackles and two tackles for loss to lead Olivet Nazarene.
