Nebraska, Ohio State and Rutgers Earn Weekly Baseball Honors

Buckeyes’ Dezenzo claimed Player of the Week; Huskers’ Povich voted Pitcher of the Week; Scarlet Knights’ Sleight earned Freshman of the Week

 

 

Player of the Week
Zach Dezenzo, Ohio State

SS – Jr. – Alliance, Ohio – Alliance

 

  • Hit .500 on the weekend with three home runs and seven RBI to help the Buckeyes take the series against Northwestern
  • Registered a .571 on-base percentage and slugged 1.250 with 15 total bases and a pair of walks
  • Was 3-for-5 with a pair of three-run home runs – his first career multi-home run game – in the series-opening win on May 28
  • The Academic All-Big Ten honoree wins his second career Big Ten Player of the Week award, both this season
  • Last Ohio State Big Ten Player of the Week: Zach Dezenzo (April 7, 2021)

Cade Povich, Nebraska

P – Jr. – Bellevue, Neb. – Bellevue West

 

  • Earned the win in the series opener vs Michigan on May 28, improving to 6-1 on the season
  • Allowed only four hits and struck out nine, including an immaculate first inning where he struck out all three Wolverines on just nine pitches
  • Matched his career high by going 7.0 innings
  • Wins his third career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award, all this season
  • Last Nebraska Big Ten Pitcher of the Week: Chance Hroch (May 25, 2021)

 

Freshman of the Week
Evan Sleight, Rutgers

OF – Framingham, Mass. – Belmont Hill

 

  • Went 4-for-7 (.571) with two walks and two runs in Rutgers’ series win over Illinois
  • Finished with a .714 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage on the weekend
  • Connected for a two-out RBI double in the third inning to expand the lead in the Scarlet Knights’ 6-3 victory on May 29
  • Wins his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week award
