Nebraska Postgame Notes
Nebraska vs. North Dakota, Sept. 3, 2022, Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, Neb.
• Nebraska improved to 2-0 all-time against North Dakota, adding to a win in the 1961 season opener. The Huskers improved to 14-0 all-time against FCS opponents.
• The Nebraska victory marked the 35th win in its past 37 home openers at Memorial Stadium, including a 4-1 record in home openers under Scott Frost.
• Running back Anthony Grant rushed 23 times for 189 yards, with a 19-yard touchdown run on the Huskers’ opening drive and a 46-yard TD run in the third quarter. Grant is the first Husker to have back-to-back 100-yard rushing games since Devine Ozigbo, who had three consecutive 100-yard rushing games in October of 2018. It also marked the first time a Husker opened the season with consecutive 100-yard games since Tre Bryant in 2017 (vs. Arkansas State, at Oregon).
• Grant also became the first Nebraska player to have at least 100 yards rushing in each of his first two games as a Husker since quarterback Taylor Martinez, who opened his career with three consecutive 100-yard rushing efforts to start the 2010 season.
• Grant had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the second straight game, marking the first time a Husker running back has had consecutive games with multiple rushing TDs since Ozigbo had two against both Northwestern and Minnesota in 2018. Quarterback Adrian Martinez had back-to-back multiple rushing TD games last season against Michigan State and Northwestern.
• Nebraska scored a touchdown on its opening drive, moving 87 yards in eight plays. It marked the fourth straight game Nebraska has scored a touchdown on its opening possession of the game, dating back to last season.
• True freshman linebacker Ernest Hausmann started in just his second game as a Husker. He is just the fifth true freshman to start at linebacker for Nebraska since 1993, joining Dedrick Young (2015), Josh Banderas (2013), Nate Gerry (2013) and Matt Holt (2008). Hausmann finished the game with six tackles.
• Nebraska nickel back Javin Wright blocked a first-quarter North Dakota punt, marking the Huskers’ first blocked punt since Levi Falck blocked a punt at Purdue in 2020.
• Tight end Nate Boerkircher had two catches for 32 yards, including a 19-yard TD catch in the third quarter. It marked Boerkircher’s first career touchdown catch. He entered the game with one career reception.
• Receiver Trey Palmer caught four passes for 82 yards, setting a career-high in receiving yards, bettering his 68 yards last week against Northwestern.
• Edge rusher Garrett Nelson recorded a third-quarter sack and caused a fumble on the play. It marked the 13th time in 17 games Nelson has recorded at least one TFL.
• Linebacker Luke Reimer made seven tackles to increase his career tackle total to 181, moving him one tackle shy of the top 50 on the Nebraska career tackles list.
• Defensive back Isaac Gifford matched Nelson with a team-leading eight tackles on the day.
• Place-kicker Timmy Bleekrode went 1-of-2 on field goals, including his first made field goal at Nebraska, a 46-yarder in the third quarter.
• Today’s game marked the 38erd consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium.
