Michigan Tabbed Big Ten Baseball Favorite
Big Ten coaches select Wolverines to claim conference title for second-straight season
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Michigan was voted the preseason favorite to claim the 2021 Big Ten Baseball Championship as selected by the conference coaches and announced on Thursday. The coaches voted on the top six teams and also selected three students from their own squads to a Preseason Honors list.
The Wolverines were followed in the preseason poll by Indiana in second place and No. 3 Ohio State
No. 4 Iowa, No. 5 Maryland and No. 6 Illinois.
Michigan enters the season as the top-ranked team in both the Midwest Region and Big Ten Conference, ranked No. 21 nationally by Baseball America. In last season’s shortened campaign, the Wolverines earned their No. 1 ranking by beating No. 1 Vanderbilt (4-3, Feb. 14) and No. 3 Arizona State (5-0, Feb. 15). Michigan became the first school from the Big Ten to earn Baseball America’s No. 1 ranking.
The 2021 Big Ten baseball season is set to begin Friday. The preseason poll, featuring the top six teams, and the complete Preseason Honors list can be found below.
