Michigan and Nebraska Earn Weekly Baseball Honors

Wolverines’ Burton named Player of the Week; Huskers’ Povich voted Pitcher of the Week; Huskers’ Anderson earned Freshman of the Week

 

 

Player of the Week
Ted Burton, Michigan
2B – So. – Huntington Beach, Calif. – Edison

 

  • Batted .583 (7-for-12) with three doubles and a home run to help Michigan win the weekend series vs. No. 21 Indiana
  • Finished with a 1.083 slugging percentage and a .615 on-base percentage on the weekend
  • Gave the Wolverines an early lead on Friday with a solo homer, finishing with two hits and two RBI in the win
  • Wins his first career Big Ten Player of the Week award
  • Last Michigan Big Ten Player of the Week: Jonathan Engelmann (April 23, 2018)

 

Pitcher of the Week
Cade Povich, Nebraska

P – Jr. – Bellevue, Neb. – Bellevue West

 

  • Tossed 7.0 shutout innings and allowed just two hits in a series-opening win against Northwestern on May 14
  • Struck out five and faced more than the minimum in an inning just once when he stranded a two-out double in the fourth
  • Gave up a two-out single in the fifth, but then picked off the runner, and also erased a leadoff runner in the sixth with a pickoff after he reached on an error
  • Wins his second career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award

Freshman of the Week
Max Anderson, Nebraska

3B – Omaha, Neb. – Millard West

 

  • Went 7-for-10 (.700) at the plate with two doubles in a two-game sweep of Northwestern
  • Finished with a 1.167 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage on the weekend
  • Recorded three hits in Friday’s win before notching four on Saturday and finished the series without an error in 13 chances
  • Wins his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week award
