The regular season ended on an average note as I went 21-6 (77 percent) last week. Heading into the sectional round, my overall mark is now 253-74, which leaves me at 77 percent for the season.

CLASS 4A LAKE CENTRAL

Lake Central (10-13) vs. Hammond Morton (10-13): The Indians edged Hammond Morton, 70-68, on December 18. Brandon Escobedo tallied 13 points in Lake Central’s 66-54 loss to Crown Point. Ladaion Barnes netted 20 points in the Governors’ 48-38 loss to Portage. Matt’s pick: Lake Central 73, Hammond Morton 63.

CLASS 4A PORTAGE

Hobart (8-14) vs. Portage (15-8): The Indians rolled to a 64-31 win over Hobart on December 7. Noah Ehrlich scored 24 points in the Brickies’ 74-40 win over Lowell. Kamari Slaughter came up with 21 points for Portage against Hammond Morton. Matt’s pick: Portage 71, Hobart 61.

CLASS 4A PLYMOUTH

Mishawaka (13-9) vs. Michigan City (14-8): The Cavemen clubbed Michigan City, 65-53, during the 2002-03 campaign. Mookie Ward added eight points in Mishawaka’s 63-57 win over Saint Joseph. Jamie Hodges poured in a career-high and school-record 42 points in the Wolves’ 86-42 win over Bowman Academy. Matt’s pick: Michigan City 66, Mishawaka 60.

Adams (11-12) vs. Riley (11-11): The Eagles soared to a 77-55 win over Riley on February 18. Gion Parks’ 17 points lifted Adams to a 67-54 win over New Prairie. Jaylen Barbara finished with three points in the Wildcats’ 45-21 loss to Culver Academy. Matt’s pick: Adams 69, Riley 58.

CLASS 4A ELKHART

Warsaw (16-7) vs. Penn (20-2): The No. 6 Kingsmen claimed a 71-59 win over Warsaw on January 11. Drew Heckaman recorded 15 points in the Tigers’ 62-50 win over Carroll (Fort Wayne). Trey Miller chipped in eight points in Penn’s 70-49 win over Merrillville. Matt’s pick: Penn 75. Warsaw 64.

Concord (11-10) vs. Elkhart (6-16): The Minutemen slipped past Elkhart, 47-45, on January 18. Malachi Emmons mustered 12 points in Concord’s 48-43 overtime win at Westview. Anthony Williams’ eight points was not enough in the Lions’ 54-36 loss at No. 3 (Class 3A) NorthWood. Matt’s pick: Concord 51, Elkhart 46.

CLASS 3A KANKAKEE VALLEY

Culver Academy (15-7) vs. Kankakee Valley (16-7): Fola Fayemi registered 14 points in the Eagles’ 75-50 win at Maconaquah. Luke Andree ended with nine points in the Kougars’ 76-42 loss to North Judson. Matt’s pick: Culver Academy 64, Kankakee Valley 56.

CLASS 3A MARIAN

Clay (7-15) vs. Jimtown (7-15): The Jimmies managed a 64-50 win over Clay on January 6. Amari Williams accounted for five points in the Colonials’ 68-59 win over Elkhart Christian. Braxten Rice was held to two points in Jimtown’s 74-48 loss to Adams. Matt’s pick: Clay 54, Jimtown 51.

Washington (15-9) vs. Glenn (22-1): The No. 1 Falcons posted a 54-47 win over Washington on December 17. Marcus Northern amassed 18 points in the Panthers’ 62-51 win over LaPorte. Joe Chrapliwy totaled 10 points in Glenn’s 52-36 win at Goshen. Matt’s pick: Glenn 58, Washington 56.

CLASS 3A WAWASEE

Tippecanoe Valley (13-9) vs. West Noble (14-8): The Chargers were a 48-47 winner over Tippecanoe Valley in the 2010 sectional opener. Dawson Perkins was held to 10 points in the Vikings’ 42-26 loss to Wawasee. Austin Cripe’s 18 points powered West Noble to a 53-34 win over Goshen. Matt’s pick: West Noble 56, Tippecanoe Valley 49.

CLASS 2A WESTVIEW

Churubusco (3-19) vs. Central Noble (22-2): The No. 3 Cougars cruised to a 76-38 win over Churubusco on January 28. Carson Bunyan finished with 15 points in the Eagles’ 72-49 loss to No. 2 Eastside. Conner Lemmon racked up 11 points in Central Noble’s 59-49 win over Fairfield. Matt’s pick: Central Noble 70, Churubusco 52.
