Maryland, Northwestern and Rutgers Earn Big Ten Weekly Softball Awards

Terps’ Greico, Wildcats’ Williams, and Scarlet Knights’ Lawson claim this week’s conference honors

 

Player of the Week

Mackense Greico, Maryland

Sr. – P/U – Aberdeen, Md. – Aberdeen – Major: Classical Languages and Literatures

• Helped the Terps go 4-1 on the weekend during the Coastal Carolina Chanticleer Classic by hitting three home runs and recording eight RBI, while batting .444 with a .944 slugging percentage and a .474 on-base percentage

• Went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Maryland’s win over Monmouth on Feb. 25

• Recorded her third home run to close out the weekend in the Terps’ win vs. Dartmouth on Feb. 27

• Captures her first career Player of the Week honor

Pitcher of the Week

Danielle Williams, Northwestern

Sr. – P/U – Pleasanton, Calif. – Amador Valley – Major: Human Development in Context

• Appeared in all five of Northwestern’s games and earned three wins at the Mary Nutter Classic

• Allowed just one run and six hits in 20 innings pitched on the weekend, while striking out 23 batters

• Recorded complete game shutouts in wins over No. 9 Oregon and No. 5 Washington

• Collects her sixth career Pitcher of the Week plaudit. Was also named Freshman of the Week four times in 2019

• Last Northwestern Pitcher of the Week: Danielle Williams (April 20, 2021)

Freshman of the Week

Maddie Lawson, Rutgers

IF – Mebane, N.C. – Eastern Alamance – Major: Undeclared

• Hit .353 with three RBI, along with eight putouts and five assists, at the Spring Games, helping Rutgers to a 4-1 record on the weekend

• Went 1-for-3 against Princeton, opening up the scoring on an RBI single for the Scarlet Knights in the fourth inning of the eventual 5-0 victory

• Also drove in the first run of the team’s 3-2 win over Siena on a sacrifice fly in the first inning

• Hit 3-for-4 in Rutgers’ 4-3 extra-inning win over Florida Gulf Coast, scoring the first run of the game and adding an RBI single in the sixth inning

• Receives her second career Freshman of the Week award
