Mark Hidalgo named 7th Head Football Coach at West Side High School

The Gary Community School Corporation is proud to announce Mark Hidalgo as the new Head Football Coach and Physical Education instructor at West Side High School. Hidalgo comes to the Cougars after a year at Calumet, where he was Head Wrestling Coach for the Warriors.

 

Hidalgo was a thee sport standout athlete at Merrillville High School graduating in 1989. He was a two time Indiana State Finalist in wrestling and placed 4th in  his senior year. He also earned recognition for his performance in football and baseball. 

 

Mark spent two years wrestling for Purdue University. He then continued his athletic playing career at MacMurray College in Illinois. He earned Collegiate All-American honors in football, baseball and wrestling while at MacMurray.

 

Upon graduation he started his coaching career in the school City of Hammond. In 1998 he became the Head Football Coach at East Chicago Central. He posted six winning seasons while at EC Central. He then coached as a Defensive Coordinator at Portage and Lake Central. He resumed his head coaching in 2023 as the Head Coach at River Forest High School.
