Both nationally-ranked teams in action rolled to comfortable victories during Week 3 around the MSFA.

Breaking a program scoring record in the process, No. 9 Marian cruised in their Mideast League opener, defeating Madonna on the road, 80-3.

The Knights (1-1, 1-0 Mideast League) had eight different players find the end zone throughout the day, including a pair of first-half TDs from Johnny William. William led the Knights’ receiving corps with six catches for 96 yards, while Corey Johnson rushed 15 times for 96 yards and a TD. Marian had built a 46-0 advantage by the end of the first half, but didn’t stop there, as Jalen Jennings returned the second-half kickoff 100 yards for another TD. After Madonna (1-1, 0-1 Mideast League) got on the board with a 48-yard Moritz Preuss field goal, Jennings struck again, with a second kick return TD from 100 yards out.

Zach Bundalo completed 12 of 21 passes for Marian, totaling 191 yards with three TDs. Defensively, Alex Griffith led the way with seven tackles and a half-tackle for loss.

Madonna running back Christian Gaier led the Crusaders attack, recording 11 rushing attempts for 60 yards. Dalen Cobb, Jesse Morris, and Jakel Davis each finished with six tackles for Madonna.

The Cardinals (1-0) held St. Ambrose off the scoreboard in the first half, with just two first downs before the break for the Bees (1-2). Two first-quarter TD passes from Gavin Brooks put Concordia ahead 14-0 with two minutes left to play in the opening period. Late in the first half, Brooks led an 80-yard TD drive, capped by a two-yard scramble to extend the Cardinals’ lead to 21-0 at the half.A slow start offensively for the hosts proved too much to overcome, as No. 6 Concordia kicked off their season with a 34-14 road win at St. Ambrose.

St. AMbrose would battle back, with a 38-yard TD pass from Tom Casey to Yemi Ward, followed by a 67-yard Cade Gorzny TD run to make it a 21-14 score with 13:44 left to play.

The Cardinal defense would hold the Bees scoreless the rest of the way, while the offense found the end zone two more times to put the game away. Brooks finished with three TD passes in the win, completing 22 of 41 passes for 267 yards. Parker Graham led the Cardinal receiving corps, making seven catches for 113 yards and a TD. On the other side of the ball, Casey Rouch finished with 10 tackles, a half-sack, and three tackles for loss.

Judson quarterback Aubrey Williams would throw for over 400 yards, but turnovers were the difference on Saturday, as the Eagles fell in non-conference action to Concordia-Wisconsin, 35-20.

The Eagles (0-2) briefly held a lead after Negil Bruce’s 5-yard TD run, capping a 13-play, 83-yard drive that put Judson ahead 20-14 midway through the second quarter. Concordia’s defense would stop the next three Judson drives however, with three straight interceptions. JU would be held scoreless the rest of the way, as Concordia mounted a comeback with 21 unanswered points to take the win.

Williams finished the day with 443 passing yards and two TDs, completing 36 of 58 passes. Dakari Ferguson brought in 14 passes for 178 yards and a TD, while O’Vantay Vickers tallied 123 yards on 11 receptions. On the other side of the ball, DaMarius Farmer picked up seven tackles, including two tackles for loss.
