Andrean (12-3): Drayk Bowen rambled 24 times for 173 yards with three touchdowns and also tallied six tackles in the No. 8 59ers’ 21-9 win over No. 7 Evansville Mater Dei in the Class 2A final.

Center Grove (14-0): Owen Bright racked up six tackles and the game-clinching interception as the No. 1 Trojans made it back-to-back Class 6A titles with a 27-21 win over No. 2 Westfield.

Gibson Southern (14-1): Brady Allen was 28-of-50 for 398 yards with five touchdowns in the No. 2 Titans’ 45-35 victory over Brebeuf Jesuit for the Class 3A crown.

Indianapolis Cathedral (14-1): Danny O’Neil finished 25-of-35 for 355 yards with three touchdowns and ran 13 times for 75 yards as the top-ranked and defending Class 5A state champion Irish made it two in a row with a 34-14 decision over Zionsville.

Indianapolis Lutheran (15-0): Micah Mackay caught four passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns, helping the top-ranked Saints rally for a 34-28 win over No. 3 Adams Central in the Class 1A finale.

Mount Vernon (Fortville) (14-1): Gehrig Slunaker completed 12-of-18 for 235 yards with three touchdowns in the No. 4 Marauders’ 45-14 win against Northridge for the Class 4A crown.

Adams Central (13-2): Blake Heyerly came up with 18 rushes for 52 yards and three scores for the Flying Jets against Indianapolis Lutheran.

Brebeuf Jesuit (12-3): Max Walters hauled in 13 passes for 210 yards with three touchdowns for the Braves against Gibson Southern.

Evansville Mater Dei (12-3): Joey Pierre was limited to 16 carries for 48 yards for the Wildcats against Andrean.

Northridge (10-5): Peyton Shook registered six tackles and a pair of interceptions, including one returned 45 yards for a score, for the Raiders against Mount Vernon (Fortville).

Westfield (12-2): Maximus Webster went 19-of-33 for 226 yards and ran 11 times for 56 yards for the Shamrocks against Center Grove.

Zionsville (9-6): Trey Firestone tallied seven receptions for 134 yards with a pair of touchdowns for the Eagles against Indianapolis Cathedral.

FINAL FABULOUS FIVE

  1. Marian (10-4): Kaleb Lusanga raced 261 times for 1,401 yards with 22 touchdowns for the Class 3A sectional and regional champion Knights.
  2. Northridge (10-5): Tagg Gott threw for more than 1,000 yards with nine touchdowns and ran for over 1,000 yards and 15 scores for the Class 4A state runner-up Raiders.
  3. New Prairie (11-3): Noah Mungia scampered 253 times for 1,735 yards with 17 touchdowns for the Class 4A sectional and regional champion Cougars,
  4. Mishawaka (8-3): Chase Gooden rambled 170 times for 1,052 yards and 12 scores for the No. 7 (Class 5A) Cavemen.
  5. Concord (9-2): Hunter Dutton went 170-of-289 for 2,248 yards with 28 touchdowns for the No. 6 (Class 5A) and Northern Lakes Conference champion Minutemen.

HONORABLE MENTION

Bremen (7-4): Lance Moser accounted for 179 carries for 1,059 yards with 13 touchdowns for the Lions.

Elkhart (5-5): Brady Krueper was 94-of-183 for 1,349 yards with seven scores for the Lions.

Jimtown (9-3): Johntu Reed was one of many players named all-conference for the Northern Indiana Conference North-South Division champion Jimmies.

Penn (6-6): Alec Hardrict recorded more than 900 yards on the ground with 15 touchdowns for the Class 6A sectional champion Kingsmen.

Warsaw (7-3): Julius Jones amassed 95 rushes for 838 yards and eight scores for the Tigers.

MATT’S MATCHUPS – FINAL

A 5-1 (83 percent) mark in the state finals allowed me to finish with a 196-49 record, which was good for 80 percent for the 2021 campaign.
