KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Leading her team to their first national tournament appearance in nearly two decades, IU South Bend junior Maddie Gard was named an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, as the 2022 NAIA All-American Teams were announced on Friday.
The junior becomes IU South Bend’s first All-American honoree since 2011, after last month becoming the team’s first All-CCAC First Team selection since 2010. Gard has also been part of two 25-win programs, after the Titans went 25-7 in her freshman campaign of 2019-20.
Gard averaged team-high 16.0 points per game, 4th-most in the CCAC, as the Titans went 25-8 on the year to earn a berth into the 2022 NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championship – the program’s first since 2005. Defensively, Gard finished 3rd in the league with 71 total steals on the season.
