Indiana, Northwestern and Rutgers Earn Baseball Weekly Honors

Wildcats’ Goosenberg named Player of the Week; Hoosiers’ Tucker earned Pitcher of the Week; Scarlet Knights’ Lasko captured Freshman of the Week

 

 

Player of the Week
Shawn Goosenberg, Northwestern

SS – Jr. – Encino, Calif. – Calabasas

 

  • Posted a slugging percentage of 1.333 and a .563 on-base percentage to lead the Wildcats against Rutgers last weekend
  • Registered a .533 batting average on the week with eight hits, four runs, six RBI and four home runs
  • Hit a 12th-inning walk-off home run on April 9 before hitting a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth of Sunday’s game to tie the game and force extra innings
  • The Academic All-Big Ten honoree wins his second career Big Ten Player of the Week award

Pitcher of the Week

Braydon Tucker, Indiana

  • Combined with McCade Brown to record Indiana’s first no-hitter in nearly 37 years on April 10 against Illinois
  • Pitched four scoreless innings of relief to earn the save, striking out one, while issuing one walk
  • The no-hitter is the first for Indiana since April 25, 1984, when the Hoosiers blanked Rose-Hulman, 6-0
  • Wins his first career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award
  • Last Indiana Big Ten Pitcher of the Week: McCade Brown (March 16, 2021)

 

Freshman of the Week

Ryan Lasko, Rutgers

  • Tallied five RBI on six hits and scored four runs while batting .429 last weekend at Northwestern to lead the Scarlet Knights to their 11th Big Ten win, the most for the program since joining the conference in 2015
  • Hit three home runs as he registered a .500 on-base percentage and 1.071 slugging percentage
  • Drilled a solo homer in his first at bat in Sunday’s finale to give RU a 1-0 lead and homered again in the fourth inning to build a 3-0 lead
  • Wins his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week award
