Illini Overpower Wisconsin for Big Ten West Road Victory

MADISON, Wis. — Illinois picked up its first Big Ten win of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking down Wisconsin, 34-10, in Madison for the first time since 2002. The Fighting Illini scored 17 points on three takeaways to move to 1-1 in conference play and 4-1 overall.

Illinois held Wisconsin to two rushing yards and had two interceptions, while both takeaways led to Illini touchdowns.

The Illini defense put its stamp on the game in the third quarter, holding Wisconsin to 10 total yards, zero completions, and zero first downs as Illinois took complete control of the game by outscoring the Badgers 17-0 in the third.

The Illini offense finished the game with 304 total yards, using a balanced attack of 167 passing and 137 rushing yards in the win. Tommy DeVito completed 75% of his passes, while Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz went 17-30 with 206 yards and two interceptions.

Chase Brown rushed for 129 yards and a score, extending his streak of 100-yard games to six, a program record. He is the first running back in Illinois history to open the season with five straight 100-yard games.
