University Park, Ill. The Holy Cross women’s basketball team returned to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference this evening when they traveled to Governors State University. The Saints started the game slow and found themselves down 8-0. Holy Cross would battle back and trailed 19-14 after the first quarter. A Jordyn Smith three with just over three minutes remaining in the half gave HC the 27-25 led. The Jaguars would go on a run late to take 33-27 halftime lead. The Saints came out the aggressor in the third quarter and took a 44-37 lead with two minutes remaining. Again, GSU was able to make a run late and take 46-44 lead heading into the final period. GSU would extend their lead in the fourth quarter, until the Saints battled back to trail 53-52 late. The Jaguars were able to connect on free throws late to hand Holy Cross the 64-59 defeat. With the loss, Holy Cross stands at 1-4 overall and 0-3 in CCAC play while GSU improves to 3-2 and 2-1.
