Grimm and the Trojans Take Down RV Trinity Christian 2-1

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor women’s soccer team defeated RV Trinity Christian (12-3) by a score of 2-1, thanks to freshman, Audrey Grimm’s, game-winning goal with just five minutes to play.

While play unfolded quite evenly for much of the match, Taylor edged Trinity Christian in most statistical categories, outshooting the Trolls 22-18, landing 11 shots on-goal to Trinity’s eight, and, most importantly, out-scoring the visitors two to one.

Trinity Christian struck first, however, scoring the match’s opening goal with six minutes to play before half. With great precision, a Troll offensive player chipped the ball over the reach of Trojan goalie, Hannah Brackenbury. Brackenbury, though, was rock solid in goal throughout the remainder of the match, securing six saves, at least two of which were highlight worthy.

Trinity may have struck first, but the Trojans responded with haste and tied the match in a matter of 140 seconds. Senior, Erin Teevans, scored her third goal in two games, hustling after a high bounce off of a Rachel Landis pass up-field. Teevans beat the Troll defense en route to her ninth goal of the season, earning Landis her first-career assist.

The two teams entered intermission even at one, and the match would stay that way for the next 40 minutes of play before Grimm finally broke the 1-1 tie. Senior, AC Hardy, sent Grimm racing up the right side of the field, leading the freshman beautifully toward the net. Grimm received the dish and took it from there, beating a Troll defender before striking a shot that ricocheted off a defender and into the goal for a 2-1 Trojan lead.

The Winona Lake, Indiana, native knocked in the fourth goal of her freshman campaign, three of which have now served as game-winning goals as the Trojans possessed the ball throughout the match’s final minutes.

Taylor has now played coach Scott Stan’s alma mater six times on the pitch, and tonight marks the first time in which the Trojans have left victorious.

The Trojans (10-4, 2-4 CL) will look to carry the momentum from tonight’s impressive win over RV Trinity Christian, as they host No. 15 Grace (9-4-1, 4-1-1 CL) on Saturday, October 23, at 7:00 pm.
