Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 5-11
AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top athletes from April 5 through 11. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Softball Player of the Week
Raegan Hiatt, Marian
Hiatt went five-for-five at the plate in No. 7 Marian’s sweep of Grace, doubling three times, walking once and driving in nine runs for the Knights.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Emmalee Hamp, Spring Arbor
Hamp logged 17 shutout frames in two starts in the circle for SAU, pitching the Cougars to wins over RV Taylor and Concordia. Hamp went 10 innings and struck out 10 in the win over CU and finished the week 2-0 with 14 strikeouts, a 0.00 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.
Baseball Player of the Week
Aaron Saal, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Saal stayed locked in at the plate for MVNU, hitting .688 with four home runs, 11 runs batted in and seven runs scored in five Cougar victories. Saal added two doubles, three steals and a 1.563 slugging percentage.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Alex McCutcheon, Huntington
McCutcheon fired a five-hit shutout in RV Huntington’s 6-0 win over Goshen, fanning 10 batters and not issuing a walk in the seven-inning contest. The senior allowed just three runners to advance into scoring position during the outing.
Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Gracious O’Connor, Grace
O’Connor scored wins in the 100-meters and 4×100-meter relay for Grace at the Manchester Invite. The freshman posted a school record and NAIA “B” standard in the relay with a time of 48.22.
Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Suzette Rodriguez, Goshen
Rodriguez took fifth in the hammer throw for Goshen at the Indiana Tech Invite, turning in a distance of 47.58 meters.
Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Runner of the Week
Dylan Felger, Huntington
Felger posted the best time in the NAIA this season to take first in the 400-meter hurdles for Huntington at the Indiana Tech Invite. Felger’s time of 52.79 also automatically qualified the junior for NAIA Nationals.
Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Jacob Gerber, Goshen
Gerber registered a mark of 59.84 meters to win the hammer throw for Goshen at the Indiana Tech Invite. Gerber’s mark was good for a new Goshen record and was the second-best distance in the NAIA this season.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Jessica Shurety, Bethel
Shurety won the Bethel Invitational with a two-round score of 149, posting the lowest round each day and helping No. 14 BU to an event title.
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Noah Ross, Taylor
Ross led Taylor to a 30-shot team victory at the Bethel Invitational, carding a two-round total of 142 for his first collegiate victory.
