Big Ten Conference Launches the Big Ten Foundation
Charitable Giving Entity of the Conference to Serve Youth and Focus on Academic, Physical, and Mental Wellbeing Across the Big Ten Conference Footprint
ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference today announced the establishment of the Big Ten Foundation (Foundation) to serve its member institutions’ communities through charitable giving and volunteerism. The Foundation will provide K-6 nonprofits educational resources and tools for students to build responsible and balanced lifestyles.
Big Ten Conference Commissioner Kevin Warren, with the support of the Big Ten Conference Council of Presidents and Chancellors, formed the Big Ten Foundation to provide grants to nonprofits in the conference footprint that align with the mission to encourage, educate and empower young students in the areas of academics, life skills, and physical and mental wellbeing.
“I firmly believe we have young students within the Big Ten Conference footprint who are our future leaders, trailblazers and difference-makers in the public and private sectors,” said Big Ten Conference Commissioner Kevin Warren. “The Big Ten Foundation will help fuel the hopes and dreams of those students by funding and supporting the pursuits of their academic success, as well as their physical and mental wellbeing.”
The Big Ten Conference is currently working to establish the Foundation’s full board, appoint an executive director and complete its strategic plan for grantmaking. The proposed timeline to begin carrying out grantmaking programs is 2023.
The Big Ten Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization incorporated in the State of Illinois. The Foundation will partner with and supply grants to other nonprofits in the communities in which the Big Ten Conference and its member institutions operate. The Big Ten Foundation will have a close relationship with the Big Ten Conference, and work to cross-promote activities and initiatives that have similar objectives and themes.
