Alo, Vawter earn Louisville Slugger/Wilson DI weekly honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oklahoma’s Jocelyn Alo and Stanford’s Alana Vawter were named Division I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The duo is being recognized for their outstanding play for the week of April 4-10.

Alo, earning her third honor of the 2022 campaign, had another monstrous week at the plate helping OU to its record-setting 36-0 start. The senior hit .615 (8-for-13) with five home runs, eight RBI and a 1.846 slugging percentage. She registered her first career three home run game in the second contest against Texas Tech and launched two more in the finale. Alo currently leads Division I with a .528 batting average, 21 home runs, 1.360 slugging percentage and .679 on-base percentage.

Vawter twirled two shutouts and finished the week 2-1 with 0.70 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 20 innings of work. Rebounding from a tough eight-inning defeat against then-No. 3 UCLA in the series opener, she bounced back with a four-hit shutout of the Bruins to clinch the Cardinal’s first series win over UCLA since 2013. The junior righty earned the highest-ranked win of her career and is the first pitcher to toss a complete game shutout against the Bruins in 2022.

The Division I Player & Pitcher of Week awards must be nominated by member head coaches and are voted on by the NFCA’s Division I Top 25 Committee, which consists of one head coach representing each of the 32 NCAA DI Conferences.
