Linton-Stockton Dominates to Repeat as State Champions
Linton-Stockton capped a dominant repeat run to the Class 2A championship with a 63-25 romp over Tipton.

The Miners finished the season 27-1, winning their final 15 games of the season to follow up a 25-5 campaign a year ago en route to its state title.

Coach Jared Rehmel’s Miners never trailed in the contest and held a lead as large as 41 points before settling for the final margin. Linton-Stockton shot 50 percent (24-of-48) from the floor and forced 26 Tipton turnovers in the win.

Haley Rose netted a game-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the winners, while Vanessa Shafford added 13 points and Jaylee Hayes scored 10.

Coach Chad Wetz’s Blue Devils were led by Ella Wolfe’s eight points.

Tipton, making its first appearance in the state finals, finished 20-7.

Haley Rose named Mental Attitude Award winner
Following the game, members of the IHSAA Executive Committee named Haley Rose of Linton-Stockton High School as the winner of the Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award in Class 2A Girls Basketball.

The award is presented annually to a senior participant in each classification who was nominated by her principal and coach and has demonstrated excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability.

She is the daughter of Brad and Robin Rose of Switz City, IN and will study Exercise Science to become a physical therapist while playing basketball at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.

The Indiana Fever and Indiana Pacers, the presenting sponsor of the IHSAA Girls Basketball State Tournament, presented a $1,000 scholarship to Linton-Stockton High School in the name of Haley Rose.

The award is named in honor of the late former IHSAA assistant commissioner Patricia L. Roy, who oversaw the girls basketball state tournament from its inception in 1976 until her retirement in 1999.
