Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | Sep. 7-13

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of September 7 through 13. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Makaela Lochmueller, Grace

Lochmueller posted a crisp .514 hitting percentage for the red-hot Lancer offense, helping Grace to wins over MVNU and RV Saint Francis. The junior tallied 19 kills in only 37 swings over the two matches without committing an error and added eight blocks.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Julia Nagy, Grace

Nagy registered at least 15 digs in each of Grace’s victories, going for 15 in a sweep of Mount Vernon Nazarene, before adding 23 digs in a four-set upset of RV Saint Francis.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Lexi Spence, Marian

Spence tossed up 36 assists in No. 1 Marian’s season-opening sweep of Taylor. The junior added three kills on a .429 percentage and collected three digs in MU’s lone match.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Sarah Townsend, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Townsend opened her sophomore season in style, striking for three goals in Mount Vernon Nazarene’s 7-0 triumph over Rio Grande.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Brooke Kohler, Grace
Kohler was busy in Grace’s season-opening, 6-0, win over Point Park, helping the No. 14 Lancers secure a shutout on the defensive end. The junior also spurred the offense with a goal and an assist.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Hudson Gongwer, Indiana Wesleyan
Gongwer scored the game-winner in IWU’s 2-0 upset of No. 15 Rio Grande. The freshman’s goal came in the 55th minute and sent the Wildcats to the season-opening win.
